Your Privacy Matters

Fasting Buddy, published by Rizwan Shoaib, is built with a privacy-first approach. Your personal fasting data stays on your device, and we use privacy-respecting analytics to understand usage and improve the app.

Data Storage

• Your fasting records, weight logs, streaks, and achievements are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage.
• Your personal health data, such as your weights and goals, never leaves your device.
• No account or registration is required.

Analytics

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used — such as which screens are viewed and actions like starting or completing a fast — in an anonymous, aggregated form. This helps us improve Fasting Buddy. We never send your weight or your target weight. What we do send is limited and non-identifying: which fasting protocol you chose, how long a fast lasted (rounded to the nearest hour), how many glasses of water you logged, the calorie total of a meal you logged, and quiz scores. That shows us which features get used; it does not tell us who you are. Google's privacy policy applies.

Calorie Scanner

When you use the Calorie Scanner, the meal photo you take or choose is sent to Google's Gemini API to estimate calories and macros.

The photo is relayed through Fasting Buddy's own server (a Google Cloud Function) so that the scanner works with no setup and no API key of your own. The photo is held in memory only for as long as the estimate takes, is not written to disk, not logged, and never stored, and is not linked to your name, email or account — we do not have one for you. To apply fair-use limits we store an anonymous, randomly generated identifier for your installation together with a count of scans; it is created on your device, is not a device or advertising identifier, and is erased when you uninstall the app.

Because these requests are made under a paid Google Cloud account, Google does not use your photos to train or improve its models, and its staff do not review them.

The estimate and the image stay on your device. Google's privacy policy applies to these API interactions.

Advertising

Fasting Buddy shows ads through Google AdMob to keep the app free. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve and measure ads; we request non-personalized ads unless you consent otherwise. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland you are shown a consent choice (Google's User Messaging Platform) before personalized ads are served. We do not share your personal health data with advertisers. Google's advertising and privacy policies apply.

Analytics & Crash Reporting

Besides advertising, the app uses the following Google services so we can keep it working and improve it:

• Google Analytics for Firebase — usage analytics showing which features are used and whether the app is healthy. It collects an app-instance identifier, app-interaction events (screens opened, sessions), coarse device information, and an approximate location derived from your IP address.
• Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting. It collects stack traces, the app state at the moment of a crash, device metadata and a Crashlytics installation identifier, so we can find and fix faults.
• Firebase Performance Monitoring — performance metrics such as start-up time and network latency, plus device metadata and an IP-derived country.

Google acts as our service provider for these. The data is used to run and improve the app; it is not sold and it is not shared with advertisers. It is separate from the advertising data described above. Fasting Buddy does not use the Android advertising ID. That permission is removed from the app at build time, so neither the ads nor the analytics can read it; the identifiers above are app-scoped instead.

Permissions

• Notifications — Used only for fasting reminders you set.
• Vibration — Used for haptic feedback on milestones.
• Camera and photos — Used only when you choose to scan a meal, to capture or pick that photo.

Data Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time from Profile → Settings → Reset All Data. Uninstalling the app also removes all locally stored data.

Children's Privacy

Fasting Buddy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can address it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
