📉 Trace — Privacy Policy

Introduction

Trace ("we", "our", "the app") is a private, on-device weight-loss journey tracker developed and published by OVC Tech. We take your privacy seriously. The health information you log stays on your device. Trace is free and ad-supported: it displays ads served by Google AdMob, which involves limited advertising data as described in the Advertising section below. This policy explains what data the app uses, why, and how it's handled.

Data We Access

• Health & fitness data you enter — the weight, body photos, meals, activity, and sleep you log are stored locally on your device only and are never transmitted to our servers.
• Health Connect (optional) — if you grant permission, Trace reads your step count and last night's sleep from Android Health Connect so you don't have to type them in. This data is read on-device and is never transmitted to our servers.
• Camera / Photos (optional) — if you add a body photo, Trace accesses your camera or photo library to import that image. Photos are saved in the app's private storage and never leave your device.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• ❌ We do NOT collect your personal information (name, email, phone number)
• ❌ We do NOT upload your weight, photos, meals, or other health data to any server
• ❌ We do NOT track your location
• ❌ We do NOT sell your personal data. Our advertising partner Google AdMob processes limited advertising data as described in the Advertising section below.
• ❌ We do NOT use analytics or trackers other than the Google AdMob advertising services described below
• ❌ We do NOT require account creation or login

Advertising

Trace is free and supported by ads served by Google AdMob. We show a banner ad on the main screen and occasional full-screen (interstitial) ads at natural breaks. The health data you log is never used to target ads and is never shared with our advertising partner. When an ad is requested, Google and its partners may collect and process:

• Your Advertising ID (Google Advertising ID on Android) — a resettable identifier that you can reset or disable in your device settings
• Approximate location derived from your IP address
• Device information (model, OS version, language, country)
• Ad-interaction events (impressions, clicks, ad-unit IDs)

Users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland are shown a consent prompt (powered by Google's User Messaging Platform) and can change their choice at any time by clearing app data and reopening the app. Users elsewhere can opt out of personalized ads in their device's advertising settings (Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization on Android). Local Storage

The app stores the following data locally on your device, using an on-device database (SQLite) and your device's private file storage:

• Weight entries (in your chosen units, kg or lb)
• Body photos you add
• Meals and portion tags
• Activity (walks, gym, steps) and sleep entries
• Your goal weight and app settings (units, reminders, app lock)

This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time from within the app or by clearing the app's data in your device settings.

Health Connect (Android)

Trace can optionally connect to Android Health Connect to import your steps and sleep. Access is read-only, happens only after you grant permission, and the data is used solely to fill in your daily log on your device. You can revoke this permission at any time in Health Connect or your device settings. Trace does not write data to Health Connect and does not transmit Health Connect data anywhere.

Permissions

• Health Connect (steps, sleep) — Optional. Used to import your steps and last night's sleep. You can deny it and still log manually.
• Camera / Photos — Optional. Used only when you add a body photo.
• Notifications — Optional. Used for daily logging reminders.
• Advertising ID — Used by Google AdMob to serve ads, as described in the Advertising section. You can reset or opt out of it in your device settings.
• Biometric / device unlock — Optional. Used only to unlock the app if you enable the app lock. Authentication is handled by your device; Trace never sees your fingerprint or face data.

Data Retention & Deletion

All user data is stored locally on your device only. We do not store any of your data on external servers, so there is no server-side data to retain or delete.

How long we retain data: local data is kept on your device for as long as the app is installed. There is no expiration — data persists until you choose to delete it.

How to delete your data:

• Delete individual entries within the app, or
• Go to your device's Settings → Apps → Trace → Storage → Clear Data to erase all locally stored app data.
• Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all associated data, including photos, from your device.

A note on backups: Trace lets you export an optional, encrypted backup file that you control. Where that file is stored, and who you share it with, is up to you — we never receive it. If you have any concerns, contact us at segmentbi@gmail.com.

Children's Privacy

Our app does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app is suitable for general audiences.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by the "Last updated" date at the top.
